Why is a liberal Democrat anti-marijuana?
People keep assuming I’m a conservative Republican because I wrote an anti-marijuana book. But I’m not. I’ve voted nearly straight Democratic all my life. The pictures in this post are people who have run for president who I’m proud to have voted for.
But I’m also an addiction psychiatrist and I think making any drug more available is a bad idea. In fact, I don’t get why other people don’t see this. The Drug Policy Alliance wants to decriminalize all drugs including heroin. We already have an opiate epidemic; don’t people realize t hat would only make it worse?
One of the main reasons I wrote the book Marijuana Debunked is that I’m just amazed at the dishonesty. Not a single one of the pro-marijuana arguments is true. Not one. At least, not one I’ve heard. Yet it’s now become a liberal and Democratic cause.
Drug legalization, especially marijuana, is the Democratic equivalent of global warming denial. Both of them are supported by a few billionaires. Both parties flip-flopped on these issues when the money started flowing. Both are taking the country in a disastrous direction. Both command near total press censorship. It is very hard to get serious reporting about the devastation of climate change onto any right wing news show. And it is very hard to get any anti-marijuana reporting onto a left wing or mainstream news show.
I think I’m anti-drug legalization for the same reason I think the world needs to act on climate change–the facts are all on the anti-legalization side. Unfortunately, the press is not reporting this information. That’s another reason I wrote the book; it’s vital information that people are not getting from the news media.

Great post, Ed. Thank you for blogging.
It’s going to be a tough year to watch as elections heat up and more misinformation supporting on pot-legalization gets echoed. So glad to have you speaking truth to propaganda.
